The mother of two children who were burned to death in a car in Multyfarnham has been charged with their murder at a special sitting of Mullingar District Court.
Lynn Egar, mother to 2-year-old Mikey Dennany and his 5-year-old sister Thelma, survived the blaze which took place on the road to the Westmeath town two weeks ago.
Ms Egar made no reply when charged with the murder of her children this evening at Mulingar Garda station. She was granted legal aid.
Judge Bernadette Owens remanded her in custody to the women’s section of Mountjoy Prison in Dublin, the Dóchas Centre.
It is understood that another motorist came upon the burning car on a road between Coole and Multyfarnham and tried to rescue those inside.
Ms Egar sustained injuries in the blaze but was released from hospital earlier this week.
