Four Lanarkshire golfers are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in a golf challenge.

Robert Hayes, Tam Boyd, Chris McPake and Gavin Clarke have assembled to take on the Longest Day Golf Challenge tomorrow (Friday, June 11) at Torrance Golf Club in a bid to raise vital funds for the charity.

The golf challenge will see the boys take on four rounds of golf, playing 72 holes in just 24 hours in order to raise as much money as possible.

Robert, from East Kilbride, is captain of the team and told us why the four friends have chosen Macmillan Cancer Support.

He told Lanarkshire Live : “We all have people in our family’s who have passed away or had cancer, so that’s why we want to take this challenge on and raise as much money as we can for the Macmillan Cancer.

“We are all local and all play golf so we thought this would be a fun and challenging way to raise the cash.

“We all want to give something back.”

Macmillan Cancer Support provides physical, financial and emotional support for people living with cancer.

By playing 72 holes and doing over 20 miles of walking in one day, the band of golfing legends will help Macmillan continue to be right there when they’re needed most.

Speaking on the eve of the event, 30-year-old Robert added: “We’re really excited about taking on this year’s Longest Day Golf Challenge.

“It’s great to get a group of mates together, play some golf and raise money for Macmillan to help people living with cancer at the same time.

“We’ve called ourselves the Fantastic 4 and we are setting off at 5am on Friday morning.

“I want to thank everyone who has supported us so far and is helping to make it a success.

“I’d also like to thank Wasim Arshad from Mr Chef Uddingston/Hamilton for the sponsor and giving us the food, it is greatly appreciated and will help us on the day.”
