Millions of people are set to have fluoride added to their drinking water after Britain’s chief medical officers found that it would help reduce tooth decay. – ITV News
I thought maybe this latest advancement in insane government policy here in the UK didn’t need a discussion. I stupidly thought everyone and their auntie knew the dangers surrounding Fluoride, but, it would seem I was wrong. This is an age old topic here at OYE NEWS, in our early days we published a lot of content on the subject, but for those new to all of this here is a little reminder of the dangers surrounding Fluoride.
First though I’d like to just remark on the way in which this news has been presented.
Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer for England, and his counterparts in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, said adding more of the mineral to water supplies would cut cavities by 17% among children in the wealthiest households and 28% among the poorest.
They say it could also reduce hospital admissions for teeth extraction by between 45 and 68 per cent. – ITV News
So Mr (dim) Whitty, show us the Science, I mean if you are going to throw out these statements you add least need to provide us with some kind of reference to back up such claims?
But to be honest, whether fluoride does, or doesn’t reduce tooth decay is not the issue, the issue is the multitude of health issues fluoride can cause. Which the article fails to even consider.
Dismissing “exaggerated and unevidenced” claims about the mineral’s supposed health risk, the chief medical officers stressed there was no evidence that fluoride caused cancer. – ITV News
Pretty much everything about this statement is misleading. Yes, Fluoride exists in nature and is technically a mineral, however don’t think for a second the fluoride added to drinking water is the same naturally occurring fluoride, the truth about where the fluoride comes from is far more troubling than that, we’ll get into that in a minute.
‘”exaggerated and unevidenced” claims about the mineral’s supposed health risk’, this is just a totally false dismissive statement.
So, here we go – Let’s talk about Fluoride
Sourcing Fluoride for Drinking Water
The following is an extract from OSU.EDU, it explains how this toxic industrial waste was transformed into an alleged ‘health miracle’:
The so-called Bone Valley of central Florida contains some of the largest phosphate deposits in the world, which supply global agriculture with one of its most important commodities: synthetic fertilizer. In the process, the mining industry leaves behind a scarred landscape denuded of vegetation and pocked with vividly colored waste disposal ponds that one writer described as “beautiful pools of pollution.”
Highly toxic hydrogen fluoride and silicon tetrafluoride gases are by-products of fertilizer production. Prior to the 1970s, these pollutants were vented into the atmosphere and gave central Florida some of the most noxious air pollution in the country.
During the 1960s, however, complaints by farmers and ranchers eventually forced reluctant manufacturers to invest in pollution abatement scrubbers that converted toxic vapors into fluorosilicic acid (FSA), a dangerous but more containable liquid waste.
The U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) cautions that FSA, an inorganic fluoride compound, has dire health consequences for any worker that comes into contact with it. Breathing its fumes causes severe lung damage or death and an accidental splash on bare skin will lead to burning and excruciating pain. Fortunately, it can be contained in high-density cross-linked polyethylene storage tanks.
It is in such tanks that fluorosilicic acid has for the past half century been transported from Florida fertilizer factories to water reservoirs throughout the United States. Once there, it is drip fed into drinking water. This is a practice that the American Dental Association and numerous scientists and public health officials describe as “the precise adjustment of the existing naturally occurring fluoride levels in drinking water to an optimal fluoride level … for the prevention of dental decay.” – OSU.EDU
and finally, this last statement from the OSU article needs to be read and understood:
Many are surprised to learn that unlike the pharmaceutical grade fluoride in their toothpaste, the fluoride in their water is an untreated industrial waste product, one that contains trace elements of arsenic and lead. Without the phosphate industry’s effluent, water fluoridation would be prohibitively expensive. And without fluoridation, the phosphate industry would be stuck with an expensive waste disposal problem. – OSU.EDU
The fluoridation of the water supply was not something that resulted from a health crisis, but more a toxic waste issue. Humans were found to be excellent filtration systems for this highly toxic waste product.
Meanwhile in the UK…..
So exactly where is the Fluoride here in the UK sourced?
Well a FOI request made explains exactly where the UK source their Fluoride:
The fluoridating acid used in England is Hexafluorosilicic acid. Sodium fluoride is never used in the UK for water fluoridation programmes (although it is used in milk fluoridation programmes). In two places in the West Midlands, the fluoridating acid is Sodiumfluorosilicate which is a powder, whilst Hexafluorosilicic acid is a liquid.
More specifically, hexafluorosilicic acid is a 20% solution, i.e. the acid contains 20% fluoride + factory floor water + silica + hydrofluoric acid + 28 contaminants.
Fluoridating water companies do not use calcium fluoride because law – The Water Industries Act 1991 (as amended) does not mandate it. Besides, there is not enough calcium fluoride in UK raw water prior to treatment to share around apart from places like Hartlepool on the east coast of England. Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland are not fluoridated. – whatdotheyknow
Now it is important to note that when health agencies refer to fluoride as ‘a mineral’, they are really referring to calcium fluoride, he naturally occurring trace fluoride we find all around the World in our drinking water. Calcium Fluoride is not considered toxic.
But of course, Calcium Fluoride is not what is artificially added to water supplied, because as the above response from a FOI request explained, ‘there is not enough calcium fluoride in UK raw water prior to treatment to share around’.
So the UK currently use Hexafluorosilicic acid and not Sodium Fluoride, so is this a safer alternative?
Hexafluorosilicic acid (H2SiF6or FSA) is a hazardous and corrosive byproduct of the production of hydrogen fluoride (HF) and phosphate-containing fertilizers. Large amounts of this industrial waste are produced every year, approximately more than 2 million tons. – pubs.acs.org
Another hazardous waste, interesting. So, just how hazardous is this wast product?
The effects on cancer and reproductive issues have not been studied according to toxicology reports. It doesn’t look good, does it?
While there may not be studies specific to a particular compound of Fluoride, we do have studies specific to Fluoride itself.
Eighty one patients (13.5%) had adverse fetal outcomes that comprised abortions, congenital abnormalities, and intrauterine deaths (IUDs)….. females with elevated urinary fluoride levels were found to have a strong association with the pregnancy complications, i.e., anemia, miscarriage, abortion, and still birth – ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
In another study entitled ‘Association Between Maternal Fluoride Exposure During Pregnancy and IQ Scores in Offspring in Canada' the conclusion found that:
….maternal exposure to higher levels of fluoride during pregnancy was associated with lower IQ scores in children aged 3 to 4 years. – jamanetwork.com
Serum fluoride levels were significant by higher in patients with osteosarcoma as compared to controls (P> 0.05,Table 1). Also, drinking water fluoride levels were significantly higher in osteosarcoma group as compared to controls (P> 0.001,Table 1). There was also a positive correlation between drinking water fluoride and serum fluoride levels in the osteosarcoma group patients (r = 0.855,P> 0.01). – ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
To be honest, there is an endless pile of studies we could go through looking at the detrimental health effects from Fluoride ingestion, so we’ll leave it there. However, more scientific evidence will be looked at in the following documentaries.
Essential Fluoride Documentaries
If you have yet to get a good water filtration system, now might be the time to begin considering it. A good water filtration will not be perfect, there are drawbacks to the various options, but whether you go for something like the Berkey filter system or a water destiller, both will give you a better, cleaner water than no filter at all. Personally I like the Berkey filtration system.
Water is precious, all life is created and maintained by water and so we cannot ignore the toxicity of water, the more toxic it becomes the more toxic we become.
